English 3-P-360 Assignments

You need to choose one of the main characters from the book. You will be filling out a form for that character. Please choose wisely because you will need to find information for each one of the sections on the form. If you can't find some info on a character, choose another one. Once you have finished filling out the form, write a half page explanation of why you chose that character. Both should be submitted on the same google doc. Remember, it's all about the details. Include as many as you can find.

In "The Things They Carried" I want you to read or listen to the short, short stories entitled, "Notes," "Field Trip," "In the Field," "Speaking of Courage," "Night Life," "The Lives of the Dead," and "Ghost Soldiers." When you finish, summarize the stories in as much detail as you can. The more detail, the better. You can fill in the worksheet attached below or write your summaries on a separate google doc.

It is a short documentary, approximately 17 minutes. When you finish watching, I would like you to write about the ambush at Ben Cui and why it was so devastating for the soldiers who survived. Your response should be at least 1/2 page Times New Roman 12, double spaced.

Read or listen to the story, "Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong" from "The Things They Carried." When you finish open up a google doc and answer the 10 questions about this story. None of these questions can be answered in just one sentence. Please make sure you are including lots of details.

Before doing this assignment, you need to listen to the first chapter of the novel, The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. On youtube, Bryan Cranston reads the novel. His version is the best. You can select which stories to listen to. For this assignment, you need to listen to the first chapter, entitled "The Things They Carried," and use the information to complete the chart below. In this chapter, it talks about the physical items that each soldier carries with him, as well as the mental/psychological baggage they carry. You can bullet point the info in each of the sections. This chapter is basically an introduction to each of the members of this platoon.

Using the internet or any books/magazines/documentaries available to you (there are some good ones on youtube), I want you to find 10 facts under each of the following seven categories. You will be typing them up in a document, separating the categories. Each fact must be written in a complete sentence.
