Santa Fe High School’s girls’ varsity basketball team in February made history when they clinched the CIF-SS Division 4A championship game in a 55-38 victory over Hillcrest, advancing to the CIF-State Regional playoffs.
Over 1,000 fans cheered the 12-member team during the CIF championship game, where they demonstrated teamwork, competitiveness, resilience and perseverance.
The team, along with coaches Zak Cokely, Jackie Saiza and Jay Sam, was recognized by the Board of Trustees on March 13.
Players include Herlinda Aguirre, Sofia Avelar, Emily Carrillo, Jaden Hill-Massarotti, Joleene Jacobo, Kirsta Leader, Oluwatomi Oginni, Alicia Portillo, Citlali Ramirez Gutierrez, Mia Reyes, Leah Saynes and Joanna Stroud.
