Whittier Union’s award-winning visual and performing arts program sets the bar for creativity and excellence, enabling students to develop their skills and talent in choir, jazz, marching band, theater arts, drill team, 3-D art and photography.
The District’s talented VAPA students have been featured in the Los Angeles Master Chorale and California Music Educators Association’s All-State Choral Festival. Band and drill students are often selected to perform in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade Honor Band, as well as regional field tournaments.
Student artists win congressional art awards, accolades during the Harmony Center Fine Art and Craft Fair’s High School Art Contest and showcase artwork during the annual Art and Fashion Show.
Throughout the year, students perform in school theatrical productions, the annual Jamboree and District choral, concert and band festivals. A championship-winning drill team ensemble, which has performed in the Super Bowl, also provides students a creative outlet.
In partnership with Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, Whittier High School’s historic Vic Lopez Auditorium transformed into a dazzling Hollywood-inspired concert hall when the Los Angeles Philharmonic staged a one night-only, showstopping performance for over 2,000 students and members of the community.
