Middle School Enrichment Program (for 7th-8th grade students)

7th & 8th grade student can participate in our marching band in the fall. You would participate in all marching band rehearsals and events just like the high school students. It's a great way to enhance your performing skills, get acclimated to the SFHS campus and culture before your freshman year and it will never conflict with your middle school responsibilities. Audition Information

The audition schedule is below. All musicians must already play an instrument and read music. No beginners. All musicians will be placed in the appropriate ensemble for their skill level based on their audition. No experience necessary for Color Guard.

Audition: Tuesday, May 18, beginning 4pm @ SFHS Band Room (for chair placement)

Jazz Band

Audition: Tuesday, May 19, beginning 4pm @ SFHS Band Room (for band placement)

Marching Band

No audition required for woodwinds and brass. Students will be enrolled in the class by completing the Prospective Band Student Form and selecting Marching Band.

*SFHS students must have concurrent enrollment in a Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Mariachi, Choir or Color Guard class.

*Must attend ALL days of Summer Rehearsals & Band Camp

Summer Rehearsals: Mon-Fri, June 8-12, 4pm-8pm

Pre-Camp Rehearsals: Mon-Fri, July 20-24, 8am-12pm

Band Camp: Mon-Fri, July 27-Aug 7, 8am-5pm @ SFHS

Ensemble Information

Wind Ensemble

Our wind ensemble is a great place to learn about concert band music from a variety of cultures and time-periods. These classes are for students who play the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba or concert percussion. You do need some previous experience to be in this class, but whether you’ve played for 1 year or many, this is a great place for you! No audition is required. We play music from all styles and perform in concerts, at festivals, and take a fun trips. Here is a performance.

Jazz Bands

Are you a passionate musician who is interested in exploring jazz, improvisation and popular music styles? Then, our award-winning jazz bands is for you. No previous Jazz experience is required and no audition. Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Drum Set players are accepted. The band plays at varsity basketball games, jazz festivals, city events, and the annual Whittier Rotary Club Battle of the Bands. Here is a performance.

Color Guard

Join our award-winning Color Guard. Learn dance and flag skills and make life-long friends along the way. Our color guard performs as part of the Marching Band throughout the year. In the spring, our guard performs on their own at winter guard competitions. No experience and no audition required. Watch a Gold Medal Winter Guard Performance

Marching Band (PE credit)

Do you want to represent our school and community with pride? Our award-winning marching band is the most seen group on our campus. The color guard is part of this ensemble. The band performs at football games, parades, field competitions, assemblies and pep rallies. Members not only learn how to march, play and spin, they learn important leadership, teamwork and fitness skills too. Many members of this ensemble become life-long friends. The marching band is a very tight knit family that has a lot of fun and will welcome you in with open arms. Members of this ensemble must also be enrolled in either a concert band, jazz band or color guard class. This class is PE credit. No audition required. Watch this video to see a performance.
